Google Meet Enshittification

Google Meet Android app meeting join now claims to need Notification Permissions for incoming and outgoing calls.

This claim is false. There's no such requirement. And if there were, it would be needless and wholly unreasonable.

You mean you need permission to show notifications to join a meeting?

I think it is needed otherwise the system would kill the app and the call as soon as you either leave the app (which is possible while having an ongoing call) or the screen turns off. No notification for the user to see something is going on in the background = no possibility to run in the background.

Tehnically, yes, it would work without the notification, you just must make sure you both never leave the call screen or let the screen of the phone go off.

I mean it claims so. You click a join link, it says notification permission needed.

      Not reproduced here. Samsung phone.
